June 6th, Thursday

Rained all night but cleared off and the sun came out before we left Glenda and Darrel's. Had a wonderful visit with them. Headed thru Prince Albert and down the #11 to Batoche National Historic site. It is the location of the last battle of the Northwest Resistance between Riel, Dumont, the Metis and the Government of Canada. A video, tour of the Church, the Rectory and the Cemetery told us the story of life in Batoche and the battle. We stopped in Saskatoon for a walk along the River Landing and to buy some Saskatoon Berry pie. Also visited the Ukrainian Museum which told of how a large number of Ukrainians came to Canada and settled on the Prairies. After leaving Saskatoon and heading along the Yellowhead Highway we watched for Glenda's daughter, Ginelle driving a 300 hp tractor. She farms a section (640 acres) on the Spear Road near Fielding. Saw the tractor but no Ginelle. We decided to stop at a camp ground near by ( really roughing it - no cell or internet :-)). Found out the next day that it used to be Glenda's Dad's pasture land and he donated it for the Glenburn Regional Park at Maymont. How weird is that.
