June 4th, Tuesday

Sun, 23 degrees ! When we are folks from the Maritimes it is very overwhelming to see mile after mile of farm land that will yield barley, canola, and other grains. Grain storage on every farm and 300 hp tractors hauling 2 or 3 pieces of equipment on the fields. Every side road is dirt or gravel - only the main road is paved. Magpies, red winged blackbirds and white pelicans are everywhere. We stopped in the little town of Foam Lake to support the economy - hardware store, grocery store, wine store, post office and quilt shop. Did find a couple of things :-). Saw a herd of bison along the drive. We drove 50 kms north of Prince Albert to meet friends, Glenda and Darrel Derksen, and spend a couple of days. They live in a small community on Emma Lake on the border of the National Park. What a gorgeous spot. We had supper at a small restaurant inside the park and then a tour of some back roads - elk, foxes, deer, Canada geese, etc entertained us along the way. Sat outside on their deck till 11 and enjoyed the peace and quiet of the woods and lake
